A river town on the west side of St. George
Santa Clara was founded in 1854 by Jacob Hamblin and is named for the Santa Clara River. It sits at about 2,759 feet and is part of the St. George metro area. The population grew from 1,091 in 1980 to 7,553 in 2020. Early settlers relied on irrigation and farming, and that history still shows in the mature trees and irrigated lots you find around town.
What that mix means for pests
Older lots with big trees, gardens and outbuildings can hold ants, earwigs, spiders and rodents. Newer neighborhoods bring construction gaps and fresh landscaping. Homes near the river corridor and open ground can also see desert pests such as scorpions.
What Santa Clara homeowners ask about
- Ants and earwigs around gardens, irrigation and shade trees
- Mice and rats near outbuildings, sheds and storage. See rodent control
- Spiders and scorpions in garages, sheds and along foundations
- Weeds in yards, lots and gravel
