Ant control in St. George and Washington County

Spraying the ants you can see does not solve an ant problem. We work on why they are coming in and where they are coming from.

Why ants are in your house

Ants usually nest outdoors and come inside looking for food or water. Utah State University Extension lists six ants commonly found around Utah buildings: pavement ants, field ants, carpenter ants, harvester ants, pharaoh ants and odorous house ants. Most of them are foragers that find a source and lead others back to it. Some, such as pharaoh ants, can set up nests inside walls in warm, moist areas.

Why spraying visible ants falls short

The ants marching across your counter are workers. The colony is somewhere else and keeps producing new ones. Extension guidance points to following ant trails to find the nest, and to using baits that match what a species eats, because ants share food with the colony. That is why a quick spray often ends with ants back in a few days.

What draws ants to Southern Utah homes

  • Irrigation and watered landscaping close to the house
  • Leaks under sinks and around water heaters
  • Crumbs, pet food and open containers
  • Cracks in foundations and gaps around doors and pipes
  • Plants and branches touching the building
